6th October
We are at that time of the year and have our first Storm with a name arriving over the weekend, storm Amy is on its way.
We have all our tunnels checked; it is just fingers crossed and see what it brings.
One of our tunnels we are planning to take the polythene of and doing some tunnel hoop repairs, plus replacing all the wood and doors at both ends.
This tunnel was torn in the massive storm last year, but we did manage to repair the rips with tunnel tape.
But it was only to get it through this season, we had three tunnels that the polythene was destroyed, so three was enough to re sheet.
Tunnel two is the one with the Spinach and Ruby chard in, and the tunnel that we repaired with tunnel tape, so hopefully it survives.
As soon as the spinach and Ruby chard has been harvested the polythene will be getting taken of and some well needed maintenance done, we will then re sheet it and plant broad beans in it, so it will be looking like new although it is about 30 years old.
Out in the field we took all the fleece of off the field, and all the reels of fleece are now stored in the willow tunnel shed I made last winter.
So, fingers crossed everything survives over the weekend, as we have a job planned for the next couple of weeks.
It is getting close to Pumpkin time, our first Sunday for selling them is October the 19th followed by the following Sunday.
I have had a ruff count and estimate we have around one and a half thousand, these all need cut and taken up to the Restaurant area over this coming week and next.
Luckily, Erin and Calum will be on school tattie holiday’s soon, so two extra pair of hands.
