9th June

It has been a busy week weeding in the fields.

We now have all the early leeks and onions bed weeded.

The routine from now until around September will be harvesting from 7am, then weed a tunnel, then straight out to the field to bed weed the field crops.

The late leeks are a bit away from bed weeding, I have been through them with the camera guided weeder and brush weeder, but the weeds around the plant are easier to hand weed if they are a wee bit bigger.

So, this week we will take the fleece of off the brassica’s crops, we will then give them one hand weed with the bed weeder, and they won’t need to be done again as the plants are big.

The leeks and onions we generally hand weed with the bed weeder around three times.

But the brassicas only need done once.

All the crops get a weed with the camera guided weeder and brush weeder around three times.

The leeks and onions I go into them all the time as they have no fleece, so it is easy just to go straight into them.

The crops are coming on great.

The two hundred and fifty courgettes in the cosy tunnel are producing now, we have been harvesting but only enough for the extras and orders, but it will not be long before we are harvesting for everyone.

The Cucumber plants all have cucumbers now they are small, and it is very early but it looks like we will be harvesting them sooner than we have ever done before.

Out in the field this week we are going to start harvesting the spring cabbage.

They have not hearted up yet, but the worry is that if we leave them to long, we will start to lose them with splitting, but they are looking great and very tasty.

We are also starting to harvest the red, green and black kale this week, these are one of the crops we gat asked how long away they are, it is a favourite.
